Danske Bank Finland banking operations during strike 4-5 January 2018

Trade Union Pro and Federation of Professional and Managerial Staff (YTN) have given strike notices of implementing industrial action in the Finnish financial sector between 4–5 January 2018. Danske Bank’s branch offices and customer service phone lines will be closed from Thursday to Friday 4-5 January 2018, and will be opened again on January 8, 2018.

Danske Bank seeks to make sure that both personal and business customers have access to the most vital banking services, such as card payments and withdrawal of cash from ATMs during the possible strike.

The labour unrest may cause disturbances in functioning and availability of the services. Failures may take longer to fix than usually.

Danske Bank informs its customers of any changes in its services on Danske Bank’s website (www.danskebank.fi) and on Facebook and Twitter.

Personal Customers:
Cash

Cash is available from cash ATMs in the normal course during the strike. Failures may occur in individual ATMs. Banks’ branches are closed during the strike.

Online and mobile banking services and MobilePay

Payments can be made online and through MobilePay. See detailed descriptions below about the availability of other web bank –services. The labour unrest may cause disturbances in functioning and availability of the web bank services.

Card payments and payment terminal services

Cards can be used normally for paying for shopping. Payment cards and payment terminal services operate also during the strike. Failures may take longer to fix during the strike than in normal times. Automatic verification service is functioning, but verification service via telephone may be congested.

Blocking services (24h) - 0200 2585 

Cards and web bank passwords can be blocked also during the strike at 0200 2585 (24h).

Transmission of salaries and pensions

All salary and pension payment instructions given to the bank in advance are executed at the payday as far as possible. Employers and the Social Insurance Institution of Finland give information on any deviating practices.

Payment service and transmission of payments

Transaction made in the web bank will be executed, but banks are not able to guarantee that all payments are transmitted during the disturbance of industrial peace. Instructions given in advance electronically are executed at the due date, as far as possible, if there are sufficient funds in the customer’s account.

E-Invoice and web payments are operational.

Bank branches are closed during the strike so they will not serve customers in transmission of payments. Invoices left to the bank in payment service envelopes will be handled normally.

Cross-border payments

Bank makes efforts to transmit all incoming cross-border payments, but there may be delays in the service.

Taxes and similar payments

 If it is not possible for a customer to pay taxes during the disturbance of industrial peace, it is recommended that the customer should consider paying them in advance if they are going to fall due during the strike.

Certification service and web payments

The TUPAS - certification service and web payments are available. There may be disturbances in functioning.

Deposits

Deposits may not be withdrawn at bank branches when they are closed.

Loans and housing issues

Loan repayments and interest payments due under the direct debit service are debited to account at the due date. Loan repayments and interest payments via online banking facilities are normally executed at the due date.

Housing transactions and securities-related issues are not handled during the strike.

Insurance premiums

Insurance premiums can be paid via the web bank. Premiums payable under the direct debit service are debited to the account at the due date as far as possible, if there are sufficient funds in the account.

If the due date occurs during the disturbance of industrial peace and the premium is left unpaid due to the disturbance of industrial peace, customers insurance is not terminated because of this.

Securities services

The strike has no effect on stock market trading.

Buy and sell orders received through online banking facilities may be delayed. It may also be necessary to suspend processing of buy and sell orders received through online banking facilities or in any other manner in order to ensure equal treatment of customers. There may be delays in entering the trades done in equities to the book entry accounts.

Investment funds

The strike has no influence on the investment activities of funds. Orders to buy and sell orders for units in investment funds, including orders received through the web bank, may be subject to delays.

Foreign currency

Danske Bank’s customers can order foreign currency during the strike via web bank. Ordered foreign currency can be picked up from the nearest post office or from the ChangeGroup office at the Helsinki-Vantaa Airport.

Business Customers:

Business Online

Business Online is available normally, but there may be disturbances in functioning.

Transmission of salaries, pensions and payments

Banking connections with business customers are highly automated and banks seek to ensure their functioning. Payments are transmitted between banks. All salary and payment instructions data given to the bank electronically are processed as far as possible.

It is recommended that companies will send their salary files for 4th- 5th of January 2018 and 8Jan 2018 by 12.30 o’clock on 3 January 2018 to ensure that salaries will be paid even if there is a strike on the due date. Salary files can also be sent during the strike, but there may delays in handling a potential issue with the files. Danske Bank aims to execute salary payments even if the payment date is during the strike.

E-invoice services are operational.

The keys used for the protection of the data are automatically exchanged periodically but new keys cannot be ordered or failures corrected during the strike.

Cross-border payments

Outgoing and incoming cross-border payments are transmitted, but there may be delays in the processing of orders.

Trade & Supply Chain Finance

In Trade Finance (=L/Cs and guarantees), the Bank’s capability to handle transactions during the strike will be very limited. The strike will not affect the handling of international collections nor Supply Chain Finance transactions. In urgent cases, customers are advised to contact Trade Finance unit directly.

Taxes and similar payments

If it is not possible for a customer to pay taxes during the disturbance of industrial peace, it is recommended that the customer should consider paying them in advance if they are going to fall due during the strike.

Identification services

Banks’ Tupas identification service for online services and web payments are operational.

Card payments and payment terminal services

 Danske Bank’s Mastercard corporate cards and Mastercard Business debit cards are functional just like personal cards. Pls see description above.

Settlement of the card payments to retailers functions for the most part, but there may be delays and disruptions in the processing.

Cash supply and counting services

Cash supply and counting services are available normally if the retailer is covered by the cash-in-transit service. Cash is counted and credited within normal schedules. Also change supplies will be handled within normal schedules.

Night safes that are pointed to be used by corporate customers of Danske Bank are working normally and cash that has been dropped into those safes is processed normally.

Cash supply through Danske Bank branches is not available when the branches are closed.

Danske Finance

Danske Finance offers online services and delivers customers’ electronic material as usual, although minor delays in the service might be expected. Phone services are closed, but we aim to reply email messages. However, minor delays might also be expected.

Money transfers function as usual, minor delays are possible.

Credit and Debt Collections run normally, but minor delays are also possible. The Realization department runs as usual.
