Tax residency form

In which country are you tax resident?

Finland has undertaken to exchange taxation-related information with countries around the world (the CRS/FATCA/DAC2). These regulations require banks and other financial institutions to determine whether their customers are liable to tax elsewhere than in Finland. The exchange of taxation related information is aimed at enhancing cooperation among tax officials in different countries.

CRS = Common Reporting Standard

FATCA = Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act

DAC2 = EU directive that obliges member states to exchange tax-related information

When are you tax resident in a country?

As a general rule, you are tax resident in the country where you live more than 6 months in any 12-month period. However, in some countries, you may be liable to pay tax in one country even though you are living elsewhere, for example if your family or actual tax residence is in that country.

If a person is tax resident outside Finland, they are required to deliver their valid foreign Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) to the Bank.

Are you a tax resident in the United States based on citizenship or domicile?
A person is generally regarded as tax resident in the US by being a citizen/a person who was born in the US, unless they have renounced their citizenship.

Where can you find your USA Taxpayer Identification Number?

Your Tax Identification Number (TIN) is used to identify individual taxpayers. TIN could be also:

  • Social Security Number “SSN”
  • Employer Identification Number “EIN”
  • Individual Taxpayer Identification Number “ITIN”
  • Taxpayer Identification Number for Pending U.S. Adoptions “ATIN”
