With a fund, even a small amount can give you access to professional expertise. Through an investment fund, you can invest in stocks and bonds, for example. Why invest in funds?

  • Start saving even with small amounts

With an investment fund, even a small amount can give you access to professional expertise. You can save in funds in several ways. You can make a single subscription to a chosen fund or start continuous, for example, monthly fund saving. As a monthly saver, you can start with as little as ten euros. You can choose one or more funds to save in. The funds accumulated are available for withdrawal in case of unexpected expenses.

  • Enjoy automatic diversification

Diversifying investments is one of the key features of a fund, as even a small amount gives you a diversified portfolio.

Investment funds are subject to statutory minimum diversification requirements concerning assets, which in turn reduce the risk associated with investment activity. Distributing investments across various investment instruments and industries reduces the impact of value changes of individual investments.

International diversification is also easy through funds. Through funds, you can also invest in more distant instruments, such as stocks in developing countries.

  • Benefit from professional expertise in actively managed funds

With an actively managed fund, you benefit from the expertise of investment professionals. Fund portfolio managers are experts who actively monitor the securities markets and make changes to investments as required by market conditions. As a fund investor, you do not need to follow the activities of companies and markets to the same extent as if you were investing directly in securities. Subscribing fund shares is easy, and they are generally quickly and easily convertible into cash.

  • Capitalize on tax benefits

Unlike individuals, a Finnish fund is not taxed on capital gains, allowing it to trade securities without incurring capital gains taxes. The fund also does not pay tax on dividends from Finnish listed companies. This results in long-term benefits for the fund investor, as the fund can more effectively reinvest its returns. Thus, the taxation of the fund share owner is realized only when they redeem their fund shares.

What is a fund?

An investment fund is a tool through which you can invest in various investment instruments such as stocks or the fixed income market. Your return depends on the performance of the investments contained in your fund. The return is generated by the development of the value of the securities owned by the fund, such as stocks and fixed income investments, dividends, and interest income. Funds also involve risks, and the value of your holdings can both increase and decrease.

What kind of funds are there?

Fixed income funds: Fixed income funds invest in fixed income investments such as corporate or government bonds and are a good alternative to direct fixed income investments, such as bonds. Fixed income fund investors get several investments with even a small amount, improving the risk-adjusted return expectation due to good diversification.

Equity funds: Equity funds primarily invest in stocks and are best suited as an alternative or complement to direct stock investments. In an equity fund, assets are distributed across multiple instruments, reducing the investment risk compared to direct stock investments.

Mixed funds: Mixed funds invest in both stocks and fixed income products. Mixed funds are suitable for investors who want professionals to manage their investments on their behalf and take market conditions into account when selecting asset classes.
